MacArthur Peterson is an abstract painter, born in 1994 and raised in the Pacific Northwest in Washington State. MacArthur discovered his love for painting in 2022, which started as a creative outlet to balance his type-A job in the technology world, but quickly grew to an obsession, with thousands of hours of practice already under his belt.
Working with a diverse palette of materials that includes both oil and acrylic paints, graphite, charcoal, oil pastels, cold wax and modeling clay mediums, and natural materials like madrone wood ash and sand - MacArthur takes a unique approach to his work that combines texture and depth to produce expressive works on canvas and birch panels.
MacArthur has developed an intuitive practice to his work, choosing not to plan ahead of time, aside from the palette of choice. Most of his work varies day-to-day based on his emotions. His intuitive approach to his work leads to dozens of other compositions below the surface of each piece, lending to the depth of the final work.
An avid outdoorsman since he could walk, MacArthur’s work is an exploration of what Play means to him in the Great Outdoors. Much of his work is based around the textures and color palettes found in nature - those glimpsed while backpacking, summiting or skiing down mountains, or waking up to watch the sunrise by a glacier lake.
